Difference between HVLP and RP spray guns from SATA
The spray gun is an essential piece of equipment in the painting process, and choosing between different models can have a significant impact on the efficiency and quality of the painting. Here we look at the differences between SATA's HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) and RP (Reduced Pressure) spray guns.
HVLP spray guns or "The Super Saver"
The Super Saver HVLP spray guns are particularly recommended for basecoat applications. These guns offer maximum transfer with minimal material consumption and are particularly suitable for water-based basecoats. RP spray guns or "The Super Speed"
RP spray guns, also known as "The Super Speed", are recommended for clear coats and 2K applications, as they allow for a higher application quantity. These spray guns have a lower air consumption and are particularly suitable for clear coats, high solids and polyurethane. SATA RP spray guns can be identified by the blue ring on the air cap.

It is important to note that changing the nozzle does not convert an RP model to an HVLP model or vice versa. However, SATA offers a 1.2 W nozzle for the RP model that has been specially developed for use with water-based materials.
