Dust extraction – capture dust where it forms and remove it correctly

Dust extraction combines sanding tool, hose, filter and collection system into a coordinated workstation. A suitable solution therefore starts before the extractor: pads, abrasives and connections also influence dust capture. Select components according to the dust generated, machines used and workload. Manufacturer specifications and the workplace risk assessment remain the basis.

Identify the dust type before selecting equipment

Wood, filler, coatings and mineral materials may impose different extraction requirements. Required suitability must not be inferred from dust appearance alone. Check the dust class and other properties needed for the process. Combustible dust, hot particles and specific hazardous substances require separate consideration.

Air path from sanding pad to extractor

Dust capture works only as a continuous arrangement. Coordinate hole pattern or mesh material, pad, interface and machine connection. Fit hoses and adapters securely and without leaks. Unnecessary restrictions, kinks or blockages impair performance. When extraction weakens, therefore, check more than the bag's fill level.

Coordinate filter, bag and cleaning system

Filters and dust bags must match the exact machine model and application. Automatic filter cleaning supports operation according to its design, but does not replace prescribed maintenance. Observe fill indicators, replacement instructions and safe handling of contaminated parts. Wet operation may require different procedures from collecting dry sanding dust.

Workstation integration and handling

Suitable hose routing improves freedom of movement, while appropriate trays and holders can organise the workstation. Check automatic start, connected load and communication functions for the specific model. Not every machine can trigger an existing automatic system. Plan the complete workflow, including inspection, emptying and consumable replacement.

Frequently asked questions: dust extraction

Is a powerful household vacuum sufficient?

Electrical power alone does not establish suitability for sanding dust. Equipment approval, dust class, filtration and collection system, and the specific process requirements are decisive.

Are antistatic accessories automatically explosion-protected?

No. Antistatic properties do not equal approval for potentially explosive atmospheres. The complete solution must be explicitly suitable for such applications.

Why is further protection assessment needed despite extraction?

Extraction does not capture every particle under all conditions. The relevant risk assessment determines which additional technical, organisational or personal protective measures are required.
