Orbital sanders work surfaces with an oscillating sanding plate. Rectangular versions support work on surfaces and along straight boundaries; triangular versions reach corners and smaller areas. Plate shape, dimensions and suitable abrasive attachment are decisive. For controlled intermediate and fine sanding, select the machine, sanding strip or sheet and dust capture together.
Choose the shape according to the component geometry. A rectangular plate can be guided along straight edges; a delta shape reaches other angles and recesses. The tip is no substitute for controlled guidance, however. Adapt your technique at sensitive edges to avoid unintentionally rounding them or sanding through coatings.
For strips and sheets, length, width, hook-and-loop or clamp attachment and hole pattern matter. Clamp holders may require extra length. Use the format intended for the plate so the abrasive rests evenly. A sheet that adheres only partly or is folded impairs controlled processing.
Stroke and rotational speed or oscillation rate depend on the model. Set the machine according to material and abrasive, and check the result on a suitable area. For flat sanding, the plate should rest evenly. Extra pressure or an angled approach is not a reliable way to compensate for an unsuitable sanding arrangement.
The flatness and condition of the sanding shoe affect support. Check attachment, wear and any damage. Keep extraction openings in the abrasive and support clear, and use approved replacement shoes. Even with similar plate shapes, attachment and airflow may differ between machine ranges.

Learn moreIt is a design with a triangular sanding plate and oscillating working motion. Plate shape can therefore be treated as a selection feature in this category.
No. Format, attachment and, where relevant, extraction perforation must match. For cut sheets, also observe the requirements of the clamp attachment.
When the plate shape suits the task, for example along straight boundaries or in corners. The decision also depends on the required removal and surface appearance.
Describe the surface shape, corners and available abrasive formats. This helps determine the right orbital sander version.
