What is a split spray jet?

- A split fan occurs when the central area of the spray fan is interrupted. Instead of an even application of paint, the spray pattern shows a gap in the middle. This phenomenon can significantly affect the quality of the paint job.
Possible causes
- Insufficient viscosity: The ratio of viscosity to air pressure is uneven.
- Spray pressure too high: excess pressure at the horn holes splits the spray jet in the middle.
- Dirty or blocked frontal holes: the air from the frontal holes is diverted to the horn holes, causing the spray jet to split in the centre.
How can you rectify the problem?
- Check the viscosity of the paint material and, if necessary, select a different nozzle size.
- Set the spray pressure correctly, for example, using SATA adam, SATA DIGITAL or a SATA air micrometer with a pressure gauge.
- Clean the air cap carefully using a suitable cleaning tool. If necessary, replace the nozzle set.
