For the painter, the selection of the nozzle size for the spray gun is of great importance.
Selecting the nozzle size and air cap is often a complex process. The following entry is intended as an aid to finding the appropriate nozzle size for a low-pressure spray gun.
Choosing the right nozzle depends on the flow rate, on the one hand. On the other hand, it also depends on the pressure used. The material is also of great importance.
Select the perfect nozzle opening depending on the colour to be sprayed. Below you will find a reference table that you can use to determine the nozzle openings we recommend for paints and varnishes. The size also depends, of course, on the preferences of the painter:
- 2K lacquers: 1.3 to 1.4
- Base coats: 1.2 to 1.4
- primers: 1.5 to 2.0
- Spray putties: 2.5 to 3.0
- Water-based paints: 1.3 to 1.4
In addition, the application can be used to determine the recommended nozzle size.
| Surface | Application areas | material flow ml/mm | Flow cup nozzle in mm |
| small | Adhesive | 10 - 100 | 0.7 - 1.0 |
| small / medium | industrial painting | 150 - 250 | 1.4 - 1.8 |
| medium | wood, wooden furniture | 200 - 300 | 1.4 - 1.8 |
| large | commercial vehicles | 300 - 450 | 1.8 - 2.0 |
This table is based on empirical values and should be seen as a recommendation. The data is determined during the 15 to 25-second test phase. In practice, these parameters also depend on the quantity and consumption of the materials. Therefore, it can be assumed that the nozzle size increases with increasing viscosity. All nozzle sizes shown are suitable for all spray guns.
