Product information

The 3nh YT6200, YT6300 and YT6500 coating thickness gauges are integrated dual-use instruments for the rapid, precise and non-destructive measurement of coating thickness on metallic substrates. The instruments combine measurement on magnetic and non-magnetic metals (Fe/NFe) in a single compact measuring system and are suitable for professional applications in surface engineering, manufacturing and quality assurance.

Three measurement ranges are available, depending on requirements:

YT6200: 0–2000 µm
YT6300: 0–3000 µm
YT6500: 0–5000 µm

Fe/NFe dual-use measurement system

The YT series combines two established methods of non-destructive coating thickness measurement. On magnetic substrates (Fe), such as steel or iron, the magnetic measurement principle is used. On non-magnetic metallic substrates (NFe), such as aluminium, copper, brass or stainless steel, the eddy current method is employed.

The substrate type is detected automatically. This allows different metallic workpieces to be tested conveniently without having to switch between separate measuring instruments.

Coatings that can be measured

Non-magnetic coatings can be measured on magnetic substrates such as steel. These include, for example:

Paint coatings
Powder coatings
Porcelain and enamel coatings
Chrome layers
Copper coatings
Zinc coatings

On non-magnetic metal substrates such as aluminium, copper, brass or stainless steel, electrically insulating coatings such as paint, powder or porcelain coatings can be identified.

Measurement ranges

YT6200 – Economy: Measurement range 0–2000 µm
YT6300 – Standard: Measurement range 0–3000 µm
YT6500 – Professional: Measurement range 0–5000 µm

This allows the device to be selected to suit the required maximum film thickness. The models cover both traditional paint and powder coatings as well as applications with greater film thicknesses.

Measurement modes & calibration

Several measurement modes are available for different testing tasks:

Basic mode
Quality control mode
Continuous measurement mode
Statistics Mode

To adapt to different measurement conditions, the series supports various calibration methods, including zero-point, single-point and five-point calibration.

Measurement on flat and curved surfaces

The integrated probe and positioning aids ensure reproducible positioning on workpieces with different geometries. The instruments can be used on both flat and curved surfaces.

The minimum curvature is a radius of 5 mm for convex surfaces and a radius of 10 mm for concave surfaces. The minimum measuring area is 10 × 10 mm.

Display, interfaces & data management

The devices feature a 1.14-inch IPS colour display, providing a clear overview of measurement values and functions.

USB Type-C and Bluetooth are available for data communication. Measurement data can be transferred via Bluetooth to a smartphone for further processing. Software support includes Windows, Android, iOS and HarmonyOS.

Compact design

Measuring 107 × 50 × 20 mm and weighing approx. 65 g, the devices are compact and suitable for mobile measurement tasks. The integrated probe enables direct and straightforward coating thickness measurement on the workpiece.

Power is supplied via an integrated lithium-ion battery. According to the manufacturer, a full battery charge allows for up to 10,000 continuous measurements.

Standards & Measurement Principles

The devices operate according to the magnetic and eddy current measurement principles described in the relevant standards. The manufacturer lists, amongst others:

ASTM B499
ASTM D1400
ISO 2178
ISO 2360
ISO 2808
GB/T 4956
JB/T 8393

Typical applications

These coating thickness gauges are particularly suitable for:

Surface engineering
Paint and powder coating
Metalworking
Manufacturing industry
Mechanical and plant engineering
Corrosion protection
Quality control
Incoming goods inspection
Production control

By combining Fe and NFe measurements in a single device, the YT series offers a flexible solution for the non-destructive testing of a wide variety of coated metal components.
