Using the Scan Probe in Scan Mode
Using the Elcometer 456 in scan mode can significantly reduce inspection time when measuring dry film thickness without affecting the accuracy:
Drag the scanning probe across the entire surface to be measured. When the probe is lifted from the surface, the gauge displays the average, maximum and minimum coating thickness.
Each set of three readings (average, maximum and minimum) can be displayed on the historical graph and stored in memory.
During each scan, the Elcometer 456 displays the live thickness reading along with an analogue bar graph showing the thickness relative to both the nominal thickness and user-defined limits (if set).
Using the scanning probe in repeat mode
When the ultrasonic probe is dragged across the coated surface in Repeat Auto* mode, a reading is taken approximately every half a second. Each individual reading is stored in the memory.
With a data logging rate of more than 140 readings per minute, the repeat function can significantly speed up dry film inspection of large coated areas.
Elcometer dual element transducers are designed for ultrasonic material thickness measurement when only one side of the material to be tested is accessible. Dual element transducersDual element material thickness gauges are ideal for inspecting metal substrates, but can also measure other materials such as plastics, composites or fibreglass. Frequency and diameter discsMeasuring heads can be selected according to the frequency and size of the crystal. The frequency of a measuring head is determined by the type of material and the intended thickness range. The choice of crystal size depends on the accessibility, shape and surface characteristics of the object to be measured. Each measuring head can be easily identified by the disc at the top. Explanation of the two-element probe characteristicsWhen using the Echo-Echo ThruPaint™ (E-E) measurement mode, high damped dual element coating thickness transducers, designated HD/CT, are required. Highly damped CT coating thickness gauges also enable simultaneous coating and material thickness measurement in conjunction with selected gauge models.Special measuring heads are available for thickness measurement on high-temperature surfaces.
