Applications
The measurement system has been specially developed for the diagnosis, maintenance and quality control of electrostatic coating systems. It assists in the testing of high-voltage power supplies, applicators, earth connections, electrode resistances and the electrical properties of coating materials and workpiece surfaces.
Typical applications include:
• High-voltage measurements up to 200 kV DC
• Measurement of short-circuit currents (SCI) on applicators and high-voltage power supplies
• Testing of earth connections and component resistances
• Assessment of the electrostatic sprayability of workpieces
• Determination of paint resistance and paint resistivity
• Troubleshooting of electrostatic spray and rotary applicators
Technical features
Battery-operated using a standard 9 V alkaline battery.
Solid-state electronics for precise measurement of various electrical parameters.
Modular system with interchangeable test probes and accessories.
Suitable for electrostatic hand-held and automatic applicators as well as rotary atomisers.
Measuring ranges
High voltage (kV): 0 to ±199.9 kV DC
Short-circuit current (µA): 0 to ±1999 µA
Resistance (kΩ): 1 to 1999 kΩ
Resistance (MΩ): 0.1 to 199.9 MΩ
Resistance (GΩ): 0.1 to 19.99 GΩ
Coating resistivity
The paint test probe enables the electrical resistance of coating materials for electrostatic applications to be determined. The measured resistance values can be converted into paint resistivity in accordance with ASTM D5682:
MΩ·cm = measured value (MΩ) × 132
Recommended paint resistivity ranges:
• Rotary atomiser: 0.05 MΩ to 1.0 MΩ
• Ransburg #2 Process Handgun: 0.1 MΩ to 1.0 MΩ
• Hand and automatic guns: 0.1 MΩ to infinity
