Powder kits

The powder kits combine all relevant test instruments for powder coating in a robust, portable case. They contain instruments for pre-cure powder thickness measurement, dry film thickness testing (DFT) after curing, systems for oven profiling and temperature logging, instruments for climate and dew point monitoring (ΔT) as well as gloss and colour measurement. The sets are supplemented by test instruments for grounding and conductivity measurement and for checking surface cleanliness. All devices are standards-compliant, calibratable and suitable for mobile use.

Application & benefits

The kits are equally suitable for sample parts, series production, colour-change operations and audits. With a coordinated combination of instruments and accessories they ensure a consistent first-pass yield and guarantee compliance with the curing window. In addition, they reliably document gloss and colour, check grounding and contribute to reproducible coating thicknesses as well as to reducing rework.

Measurement tasks & kit configuration

Pre-cure thickness: Selection of suitable powder combs or non-contact methods depending on the component geometry and target dry film thickness range (target DFT). This check serves as early control before curing.

DFT measurement: Performed with FE/NFE probes including calibration foils and zero plates for standards-compliant coating thickness verification according to ISO/ASTM. Ideally suited for quality assurance in production.

Oven profiling: Use of temperature loggers with a defined number of channels and a matching temperature range in accordance with the coating specification. Evaluation of the curing window enables verification of the oven curve and process stability.

Climate & dew point measurement (ΔT): Monitoring of the environment before coating to ensure optimum adhesion and surface quality. Measurement covers relative humidity, air temperature and surface temperature.

Gloss & colour: Testing in accordance with ISO/ASTM with defined measuring geometry (e.g. 60°) and determination of colour deviation (ΔE*). Ensures consistent colour tones and reproducible gloss levels.

Grounding & cleanliness: Measurement of electrical resistance (< 1 MΩ) on workpiece and suspension to ensure proper electrostatic coating conditions. Additionally, checks for dust and contamination help to prevent coating defects.

Product ranges & integration

The range includes standard kits and customised kits with QA software, data loggers and interfaces for digital inspection reports. Together we define the required scope of testing, the relevant standards and the measurement point plan and integrate the sets completely into existing quality assurance workflows and documentation systems. This means all measurements are available audit-ready and revision-proof.

Frequently asked questions about powder kits

Which test instruments belong in a powder kit?

Typically included are instruments for measuring powder thickness before curing (pre-cure, e.g. powder combs/ultrasonic), a DFT dry film thickness gauge for FE/NFE after curing, climate and dew point measurement (ΔT), oven profiling/temperature logging, gloss and optionally colour measurement, a grounding or conductivity tester as well as tools for surface cleanliness/dust. Calibration foils, zero plates and report templates complete the set.

How do I choose the right powder kit?

Selection depends on the substrate (steel/Al/ZN), geometry (edges/internal areas), the applicable standards (e.g. ISO 2360/2178/19840, ISO 2813), process conditions (ΔT, oven profile, frequency of colour changes), required accuracy and documentation needs (data loggers/interfaces). Traceable calibration certificates and suitable accessories in the case are essential.

What improves process reliability and quality when using powder kits?

A measurement point plan for pre-cure thickness and DFT, ΔT release before coating, oven profiling compliant with coating specifications, documented gloss/colour testing, grounding resistance <1 MΩ as well as digital reports. Regular instrument monitoring and user training ensure consistent results and high first-pass yields.
