Color measurement enables the objective evaluation of coating, plastic, printing and automotive surfaces. Spectrophotometers with d/8 or 45/0 geometry (optionally with SCI/SCE mode) are used, complemented by colorimeters and light booths with standardized illuminants. Recorded and evaluated are ΔE*ab and ΔE00, tolerance checks, color formulations as well as GLP-compliant reports – compliant with ISO 7724, ISO 11664, ASTM D2244 and ASTM E308.
Color measurement technology is central for coaters, automotive/OEM applications, plastic and film manufacturers, printing and packaging companies as well as laboratory and QA departments. Precise color measurement systems ensure color consistency across batches, minimize rework and complaints and ensure audit-proof approvals – from incoming goods inspection to series production.
Instrument selection: d/8 geometry (with SCI/SCE) is used for precise color capture including gloss compensation, while 45/0 corresponds to the visual perception of the human eye. The measurement aperture and sample positioning are adapted to the material and texture.
Light booths: Standardized lighting conditions with D65, A and TL84 enable the visual evaluation of color fastness and metamerism. Switchable illuminants allow practical comparisons.
Tolerance checking & evaluation: Color deviations are displayed as ΔE*ab or ΔE00, optionally in Lab or LCh coordinates. Results are graphically represented and checked against predefined tolerance limits.
Documentation: Measurement data can be tracked via labels/QR codes, exported as PDF/CSV reports and archived in a tamper-proof way via serial number and user management. An integrated limit check supports fast approval processes.
The portfolio includes portable and benchtop spectrophotometers, colorimeters, light booths, calibration standards (white/black references), sample holders and color standards. In addition, QC and formulation software, app/cloud solutions and interfaces are available to process color data digitally. We define scope of testing, reference to standards and measurement point plans and integrate the systems into QA workflows, report archives and audit processes. Result: precise, reproducible color control with documented compliance with standards.

Learn moreWhy color consistency, gloss and cleanliness work together – for stable approvals and less rework.
Learn moreCommon are spectrophotometers and colorimeters with geometries d/8 or 45/0 and optionally SCI/SCE. Relevant standards include ISO 7724 and ISO 11664 (CIE color space) as well as ASTM D2244 (color differences) and ASTM E308 (colorimetric calculation).
The selection depends on material/gloss level, texture and application. 45/0 is suitable for visual matching, d/8 allows SCI/SCE to control the influence of gloss. Illuminant and observer (e.g. D65/10°), measurement aperture, sample positioning as well as tolerances such as ΔE*ab or ΔE00 must be defined according to customer requirements.
Through regular white/black references, conditioned samples, defined measurement geometry, multiple repeat measurements and GLP-compliant protocols. Documented are instrument/serial number, geometry/SCI-SCE, illuminant/observer, reference/sample, ΔE results and PDF/CSV reports with date/user/labels.
We configure spectrophotometers, colorimeters and light booths including calibration standards, measurement point plans and documentation – compliant with ISO 7724/11664 and ASTM D2244/E308. Result: audit-proof evidence, stable approvals and minimal rework.
