pH measurement is a key method for controlling pretreatment, process baths and laboratory solutions. It uses handheld and benchtop pH meters with ATC (automatic temperature compensation), glass or ISFET electrodes, buffer solutions (pH 4/7/10) as well as cleaning and storage solutions for membrane care. Instruments provide GLP functions, two-/three-point calibration, guided sample handling and digital reporting functions in accordance with ISO 10523 and ASTM D1293.
pH meters are used in pretreatment plants (e.g. pickling, degreasing, phosphating), in anodizing and electroplating baths, by coaters, in water treatment and in laboratories and quality control. Correct pH control secures the process window, prevents coating defects and ensures audit-proof evidence – from production through to the laboratory.
Instrument selection: Choosing suitable handheld or benchtop pH meters with automatic temperature compensation (ATC), integrated data memory and GLP functions for traceability and documentation. Instrument selection depends on installation site, sample type and required measurement accuracy.
Electrodes: Use of glass electrodes for universal applications, ISFET electrodes for robust or field use and spear-tip or flat electrodes for pasty, viscous or surface-near samples. The electrode type influences response time, stability and maintenance effort.
Calibration: Performing a two- or three-point calibration with standardised buffer solutions (pH 4.00 / 7.00 / 10.00). The calibration interval is defined according to the application, recorded and regularly reviewed to ensure measurement reliability.
Care & maintenance: Regular cleaning and regeneration of the electrode prevents drift and extends service life. Storage in KCl solution protects the membrane and maintains reference performance.
Documentation: Measurement values and calibration data are recorded in GLP-compliant form and clearly assigned via labels and QR codes. PDF and CSV export, serial number tracking and user management enable complete traceability in the quality assurance process.
The portfolio includes pH meters (handheld and benchtop), electrodes (glass/ISFET), buffer, cleaning and storage solutions, temperature probes, data loggers, apps and interfaces to digital QA. We define scope of testing, standards references (ISO 10523, ASTM D1293) and measurement point plans and integrate the instruments into QA workflows, photo and report archives as well as audit processes. The result: stable process pH values with traceable documentation and standard compliance.

Learn moreThe standard is electrochemical measurement using a glass or ISFET electrode with automatic temperature compensation (ATC). Relevant standards are ISO 10523 (Water quality – Determination of pH) and ASTM D1293. Two-/three-point calibrations with pH 4.00/7.00/10.00 buffers are common.
Selection depends on the medium (pretreatment, anodizing/electroplating bath, water), temperature/conductivity, particles and solvent content. For aqueous, clean media, glass electrodes are suitable; for viscous/particle-laden samples, ISFET, spear-tip or flat electrodes are advisable. Important factors are ATC, an appropriate measuring range, GLP functions and suitable buffer solutions.
Through regular two-/three-point calibration, fresh buffers at reference temperature, proper sample handling, cleaning & storage of the electrode, temperature compensation, repeat measurements and GLP records. Documentation includes the instrument/electrode, calibration values, temperature, pH result as well as PDF/CSV reports with date/user/serial number.
We configure handheld & benchtop pH meters, electrodes and buffer/care sets including calibration, measurement point planning and documentation – in accordance with ISO 10523 and ASTM D1293. Result: audit-proof evidence, stable processes and minimal rework.
