High-pressure pumps

High pressure piston pumps, function, advantages and applications:

Piston pumps were already used in ancient Rome to pump water and the technology used in piston pumps today is still based on these historical origins.

Function of high-pressure piston pumps:

The piston pump ensures that the material to be processed is transported from the container to the spray gun. The pressure of the material is built up, the material is squashed and separated by the nozzle – so that you can finally spray it onto the appropriate substrate. The pumping principle is displacement, as the reciprocating piston draws liquid into the airless hose and then forces it into the high-pressure hose. This is why the reciprocating piston pump is considered a positive displacement pump.

Piston pumps are not designed to run continuously. This means that piston pumps start when the pressure falls below a certain limit. It then transports the material and in doing so, builds up the required material pressure again, which you determine by setting up the device. Stop when the required pressure is reached. Spraying the material reduces the pressure again. When the pressure falls below a certain point, the piston pump starts again.

Applications of piston pumps:

In principle, piston pumps can be used to process a wide range of materials, which is why there are different piston pumps that can process low to high viscosity materials, e.g. water-diluted and solvent-based materials, primers, topcoats, fillers, epoxy and polyurethane paints, oils and wood impregnation agents, emulsions, release agents

Advantages of piston pumps:

Piston pumps have a high suction power and very good delivery rates, especially for highly viscous materials. The pump itself is robust and insensitive, which is particularly important when handling heavy materials. Since the piston pump is not a continuous runner, wear parts are also saved. The high material pressure and the large material volume also allow the use of long airless hoses – which in turn reduces the frequency and distance of material containers. Piston pumps are characterised by the fact that they are as light, robust and durable as possible and are suitable for harsh environments and construction sites.

Fields of application and use of piston pumps:

Piston pumps have a very wide range of applications and can be used for various airless applications. These applications for piston pumps can include, for example:

  • Furniture and woodworking
  • metalworking
  • ACE segment (lorry trailers, tractors)
  • Machine tools
  • Container
  • Transport machines

Piston pumps are located on the trolley, making it easy to move them to the appropriate place of use. The piston pumps are used for airless application but also for material transport in the paint kitchen.

Low pressure pumps

How does an air-operated double diaphragm pump work?

The air-operated double diaphragm pump is a positive displacement pump with compressed air as the power source. The compressed air is conducted from one chamber to the other via a connecting shaft, allowing both chambers to move simultaneously. This reciprocating motion forces liquid from one chamber into the outlet manifold, while the other material chamber is filled through the inlet manifold. During the exchange, the previously filled material is partially emptied into the outlet manifold and the other chamber is filled through the inlet manifold. The rapid change of direction ensures that the pulsation at the outlet is lower.

What materials can be processed with a diaphragm pump?

  • Primers
  • topcoats
  • release agents

Please ask our team if you are unsure whether your desired material can also be used.
